The Emirates Writers Union will open its new season with a commemoration ceremony for late UAE poet Habib Al Sayegh. The event is in recognition of the late poet’s contribution to supporting the cultural field in the UAE amd propelling the journey of creativity both in the UAE in the Arab world, as well as his great contribution to the local journalistic and cultural scenes. The event aims at shedding light on the late poet’s achievements as a prominent modern poet and as Secretary General of the Arab Writers Union and Chairman of the Emirates Writers Union.

The event will host a constellation of Emirati and Arab intellectuals, thinkers and writers. Moreover, the Union has decided that its new cultural season for 2019-2020 and all its activities and events will bear the title of “ Habib Al Sayegh: The Icon of Culture and Creativity”.

Commenting on the news, Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Writers Union poet Al Hanoof Mohammed said: “We are still trying to grasp the fact that poet and media personality Habib Al Sayegh is no longer with us. We are both shocked and pained by his absence. The UAE has lost one of its dearest and most loyal sons, who had been showering us with his poems, prose, patriotism and humanity for over fifty years. We will always remain true to his vision and hope to follow in his footsteps in terms of his love for the UAE, for creativity and for humanity.

It is worth mentioning that the commemoration event will take place at 5pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the cultural palace in Sharjah.
