The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation will proudly host the art exhibition “Written Jewels – Ornamentation & Calligraphy Dialogue” by renowned artists Tagalsir Hassan and Marwan Aridi on April 16.
With over four decades of artistic mastery, the two seasoned artists offer an immersive and enriching journey that goes beyond boundaries, crafting a unique identity in the world of art. Each artist’s work stands out with its own distinct style, making their creations instantly recognisable and captivating.
This distinguished exhibition, organised by the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, seamlessly blends Arabic calligraphy with orientalornaments, transporting visitors into a world of artistic harmony. Featuring over 70 paintings displayed throughout the foundation’s corridors, the exhibition combines traditional elements with contemporary creativity, offering a captivating visual experience.
Notably, artist Tagalsir Hassan is celebrated for his mastery of traditional Arabic calligraphy and for creating his own distinctive “Tagi” style. This innovative approach has influenced his design work, original paintings, and vibrant canvas artworks. With over four decades of artistic and academic experience, Hassan has made a significant impact on the development and preservation of Arabic calligraphy through his creative pieces, published research, and active participation in international exhibitions.
Tagalsir Hassan has participated in numerous international exhibitions and won over 17 accolades in Arabic calligraphy competitions and exhibitions. He has been honoured by cultural and art foundationsin Egypt, Kuwait and the UAE. His works are housed in prestigious art and cultural institutions, including the Sharjah Department of Culture, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, and IRCICA in Istanbul.
Meanwhile, Arabic calligraphy has captivated artist Marwan Aridi, who has lived in the United States for over 40 years. Passionate about elevating this fine art, he has worked tirelessly to refine its techniques, infuse it with his unique creative style, and enrich it with his extensive academic background. Committed to honing his craft, he pursued graduate studies in the United States, earning a bachelor’s degree in art and design, followed by a master’s degree in art.
Aridi’s works are distinguished by their advanced techniques and meticulous attention to detail. He has developed a unique approach that seamlessly blends motifs from various artistic eras, crafting an ornamental style that harmonises intricate patterns with masterful colour coordination. His work captivates viewers, offering a refined and sophisticated interpretation of Arabic calligraphy, enriched with his distinctive artistic touch.
The exhibition conveys a message of love for the spirit of the East, infused with gilded aesthetics, ornaments inspired by the world of tales, and colours that echo the radiant glow of the past.
