The Theatrical Association has released a special book on the distinguished Emirati artist Ahmed Al Jassmi, who has been selected as the honored Emirati personality at the 14th edition of the Gulf Theatre Festival.
The festival will kick off on September 10, 2024, in Riyadh, showcasing theatrical performances by artists from across the GCC countries, all competing for prestigious festival awards.
This event will serve as a vibrant cultural and theatrical gathering, bringing together artists and creative talents from across the GCC, accompanied by a diverse array of cultural and artistic activities.
The book, titled “Ahmed Al Jasmi… Dean of Emirati Theatre,” reflects the esteemed status Al Jassmi has attained and his prominent presence in major Gulf theatrical events. The book highlights his exceptional talents and the significant administrative roles Al Jassmi undertook, which played a vital part in elevating Emirati theatre to an advanced level, earning it a strong reputation in local, Gulf, Arab and international theater arenas.
The book features a comprehensive theatrical biography of Al Jassmi, tracing his journey from his early beginnings with Ajman Theatre to the pivotal moment when he joined the Sharjah National Theatre. It also highlights the key milestones in his illustrious career, including his appearances, honors, awards, and the numerous achievements that the great Emirati artist has contributed to the legacy of Emirati theatre.
In the introduction of the book, penned by Chairman Ismail Abdullah, the Association’s message captured several key aspects as it recounted select chapters from the career of Ahmed Al Jassmi.
It reads:”Ahmed Al Jassmi… the dramatist who built his performative and administrative career with immense passion and an unwavering determination. He crafted his dream until it became a reality, guiding it towards pathways of light he envisioned without the need to traverse any tunnels. Riding the wave of modernity, he propelled our theatre to new heights, walking alongside it like a shadow, engraving for our stage some of its most notable works. This man, whose creative powers never waned with age, never rested on his past achievements. Instead, he anchored his resolve in the niche of the ‘father of arts,’ allowing our theater to grow across different spaces. His story is that of a man who has become an icon of our theatre, residing in wonder above every space his creativity touched, captivating minds with the grandeur of his presence, the elegance of his performance, and his unique ability to choose roles that were crafted just for him.”
The book includes numerous testimonies and tributes written by prominent Emirati, GCC and Arab playwrights who have shared the stage with Ahmed Al Jassmi and worked with him in various theatrical productions. These testimonials reflect their admiration and deep appreciation for Ahmed Al Jassmi’s remarkable achievements and contributions to the GCC theatre.
