The Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) has announced the establishment of the College of Music, the UAE’s first dedicated music institution, further solidifying Sharjah’s status as a leading centre for cultural and artistic education in the region.

Designed to provide a comprehensive, industry-focused curriculum, the College will equip students with essential technical expertise, artistic vision, and professional skills for thriving careers across diverse musical genres. 

Its programmes will encompass Western and Arabic music performance, composition, conducting, music technology, musicology, and music pedagogy—offering a well-rounded education that harmonises tradition with contemporary innovation.

Dr. Alexandros Spyrou, Dean of the College of Music, hailed the launch as a transformative milestone for music education in the region. “The College of Music at SPAA marks a major step forward. Our mission is to nurture a new generation of musicians who will shape the UAE and MENA region’s evolving musical landscape,” he said. He underscored the institution’s commitment to delivering a rigorous artistic education that meets international standards while remaining deeply rooted in the region’s cultural heritage.

The College will boast state-of-the-art facilities, including specialised rehearsal spaces, recording studios, and performance venues. Students will benefit from mentorship by internationally renowned faculty and have opportunities to collaborate across SPAA’s diverse performing arts disciplines.

“With the establishment of the College of Music, SPAA continues its mission to be a hub of excellence in the performing arts,” Dr. Spyrou added. “We are fostering a space where students can refine their craft, push artistic boundaries, and define their unique musical identity.”

The College is set to welcome the first cohort of students in September 2025, with applications now open for aspiring musicians ready to embark on this exciting educational journey.
