The Ministry of Culture has announced the launch of the fifth edition of its Summer Camp 2024, which will run until July 31, 2024. The Summer Camp aims to harness the energies of all community members, build their capabilities, broaden their cognitive horizons and perspectives, and keep them up with the latest knowledge trends and developments.
The one-month event also seeks to reinforce participants’ national identity and culture, thereby empowering them to contribute in shaping the future of the UAE. The camp embodies the Ministry’s commitment to providing a stimulating and encouraging environment for community members of all ages, from six-year-olds to senior citizens over the age of 60.
The initiative helps enhance participants’ skills and personal abilities through a rich program of integrated activities. The program features 215 events, including interactive and engaging workshops, specialized training courses, and various meetings and guided tours. These activities are conducted in partnership with numerous specialized bodies, cultural associations, and government agencies across the country.
Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, stated, “The camp embodies the Ministry’s annual commitment to providing a stimulating, encouraging and supportive environment for members of society. This initiative plays an active role in enhancing their intellectual and cognitive skills, educating them about future trends, and contributing to the discovery and refinement of their talents and personal knowledge. It significantly adds to their intellectual and knowledge base, strengthens their culture, deepens their connection to national identity, and solidifies the values of parents and grandparents in the hearts and minds of future generations.”
He continued, “We believe in the importance of utilizing leisure time and transforming it into valuable gains for all segments of society. This year, through an integrated program, we have focused on enhancing participants’ awareness and perceptions of the country’s future approaches, particularly in empowering all community members with sources of science and creativity. Our goal is to advance the development of a knowledge society by continually working to create an appropriate environment that contributes to deepening their connection with their heritage and enriching their scientific and intellectual capabilities, enabling them to become active members who are able to contribute to shaping the future of their country.”
The camp will feature a series of sessions and dialogue meetings hosting a group of influential figures in the country and senior citizens. The aim is to build an interactive dialogue between generations to enhance national identity and develop young people’s minds regarding national youth priorities in education, skills, work, entrepreneurship, health and safety. Various topics will be discussed, including social responsibility, positive citizenship, environmental sustainability, digital entrepreneurship, private sector employment, prominent current and future global challenges, as well as the Emirati society’s costumes, traditions and values.
The camp will organize a series of visits to heritage landmarks and cultural sites across the UAE, aimed at educating participants about the country’s rich civilization and diverse cultures. These landmarks, including museums and cultural and educational centers, serve as beacons of science, culture, and knowledge.
In support of the country’s efforts to promote national identity and the agenda of tolerance, the Ministry has collaborated with Sandooq Al Watan to offer programs that reinforce cultural heritage and Emirati identity. These programs, available in all of the Ministry’s cultural and creative centers, are rich in both information and practical skills, helping to preserve heritage and instill it as a foundational value in the hearts of tomorrow’s youth, preparing them for the future.
The camp offers a diverse array of specialized courses across creative industries, encompassing visual arts, performing arts, theater, cinema, music, heritage, literature, electronic games, animation, and other digital technologies like metaverse and artificial intelligence and their future impacts. Additionally, a series of creative and interactive workshops will target all members of society across various fields to foster competitiveness and creativity. These workshops include sports activities such as Padel tennis and football, as well as instruction in painting and digital art, cinema makeup, photography, chess and hiking.
