The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation will be hosting a film screening of the film Abna’ Al Mustaheel (Sons of the Impossible) at 8pm on Thursday, September 22, 2022. The screening, which will be attended by Hossam Hamoud, the director of the film, will be held at the premises of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, in Rigga street – Dubai.
Abna’ Al Mustaheel (Sons of the Impossible) is a short feature film that sheds light on the lives of people of determination, depicting real incidents that feature a boy with down-syndrome and an autistic girl. The film looks closely at the negative way that society perceives the differently abled and underlines the crucial role they have in the community and the importance of giving them the care and support they need.
The script of the film was written by Hossam Hamoud, who is also the director. It features Salwa Jameel, Marawan Ghariwati, Mohamed Hassan Al Beik, nour Sukari and Sawsan Ismail. Cinematography and Editing is by Ahmed Naema and the assistant director is Hassan Tahhan.
The film received wide acclaim due to its humane subject matter, highlighting the challenges faced by people of determination. According to its director, the filming took place in a working-class neighborhood in Aleppo.
It is worth mentioning that the “Sons of the Impossible” won “Best Film Award” at Hope Film Festival in Stockholm and “Best Director” at Al Arz International Short Film Festival in Morocco. Moreover, it was also screened in various international festivals without being part of the official competition. These festivals include the Chefchaouen International Film Festival for Youth and Childhood Cinema in Morocco, the Citadel International Film Festival in Syria, the International Cinemana Film Festival in the Sultanate of Oman, and the Al-Awda International Film Festival in Palestine.
Director Hossam Hammoud is considered one of the leading film directors in Syria, as he has a large repertoire of theatrical, television and cinematic works. He has founded several cultural projects inside and outside Syria, and has received many awards and honors. Among his most prominent works are: “Death for Love”, the series “Zwaweel” and the movie “A Starting Point”.
It is worth mentioning that ‘Al Owais Film Club’, which was launched in October, 2021, is an initiative that has been added to the Foundation’s repertoire of cultural projects, which aims at screening notable and award-winning local, Arab and international films that are often not seen by the public, and hosting discussions about them in the aim of cultivating visual literacy in the community. Al Owais film club will also screen independent films that showcase talents in the fields of script-writing, cinematography or criticism.
