‘Colored Letters’ exhibition has kicked off on Tuesday October 17th, 2023, at the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation. The exhibition, which is held in collaboration with Dubai Culture under the umbrella of the Dubai Calligraphy Biennale, features the artworks of a constellation of Iranian artists on and will run until October 31st, 2023.
The exhibition was inaugurated by HE Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, in a ceremony that was attended by a number of leading cultural personalities and artists lead by HE Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, Member of the Board of Trustees of Al Owais Cultural Foundation, HE Dr. Sulaiman Mousa Al Jassim, Deputy Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, HE Saeed Mubarak Kharbash, Chief Executive Officer of the Arts & Literature Department in Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and HE Dr. Salah Al Qassim, Advisor at Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, as well as a large audience of artists, intellectuals, media personalities and friends of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation.
The audience took a tour of the exhibition, which showcases the artworks of 23 veteran Iranian artists, namely: Adel Alasvand, Ahmad Mazadi, Ali Zandi Shafagh, Amir Hossein Jabbari, Damoon Khanjanzadeh, Davoud Asadolahvash, Dina Nattaghnia, Hosein Shirazi, Korosh Ghazimorad, Ladan Moshir Fatemi, Mahdi Farimani, Mahsa Davachi, Mahya Tolookian, Mohammad Bozorgi, Omid Khakbaz, Raha Abdolahi, Rahil Beigi, Rababa Hosein Bour, Saeed Khooyeh, Saeed Naghashian, Shahin Kazemi, Solmaz Hosseini and Vahid Arang.
On the sidelines of the Exhibition, Iranian artist Amir Hosein performed a number of Sufi poems accompanied by music at the Exhibition Hall of Al Owais Cultural Foundation, which was applauded by the audience who admired his beautiful singing voice that reflects the aesthetics of this event, which aims at transporting the audience to an enchanting world of beauty and art.
It is worth mentioning that the ‘Colored Letters’ exhibition is held under the umbrella of the Dubai Calligraphy Biennale, which is organized by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. The event, which aims at highlighting the importance of calligraphy as an aesthetic tool of expression that reflects culture, sees the participation of more than 200 local and international artists and innovators, features 19 exhibitions, and contributes to 35 sites around Dubai that showcase a wide variety of artworks inspired by traditional and modern calligraphy written in more than 8 languages.
The ‘Colored Letters’ exhibition brings together calligraphy and aesthetics with ornamentation, reflecting the depth of the artist’s philosophy through the use of various calligraphic styles and techniques that help bring about a creative accordance between words, color and the space that surrounds them.
The art of calligraphy in Iran has witnessed many innovations during the past 150 years as a result of the many cultural, artistic, political, social, and technological developments that have taken place during this period. In the past 50 years, the pace of modern calligraphy innovations and developments have increased, making this field more popular and widespread. This exhibition aims to shed light on these developments through examining the various trends of Iranian calligraphy.
The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has organized numerous calligraphy exhibitions in the previous years as it believes that calligraphy is one of the most prominent fields of visual arts with a great cultural energy. Hence, the Foundation has always championed this art form, celebrates it and strives to maintain and preserve it so that it may persist in this day and age and continue to thrive in the future, just like it existed in the past with its authentic sentimental and cultural values, transcending distance and boundaries and bringing together artists from around the world who find in it a gracefulness that elevates their spirits and brings about a sense of tranquility and peacefulness in their hearts that is inspired by beauty and aesthetics.
