Arab Theatre Institute Launches Playwriting Competition for Children and Adults

The Arab Theatre Institute has unveiled the conditions for participation in its playwriting competitions for children and adults. The 2025 playwriting competition is designated for children aged 3 to 18, while the 2026 competition is directed at adults over the age of 18.

In its announcement of the playwriting competition for children themed “Our Children are New Heroes in Our Folk Tales”, the Arab Theatre Institute emphasized the importance of integrating contemporary characters from children into well-known folk tales in Arab culture. The goal is to correct and update these tales, ridding them of some negative images and meanings, bridging the gap between them and new generations who may be unfamiliar with these characters, and preparing them for contemporary and future relevance.

The Institute will begin receiving submissions for the children’s competition from March 1 until August 1, 2025. The final results will be announced during the first half of November 2025.

For the Aults’ Competition, the Institute has chosen the theme “Man in a Post-Human World”, aiming to produce texts that anticipate the dangers of a post-human era. Text submissions for this competition will be accepted from March 1 until July 1, 2026. The final results will be announced in mid-November 2026
