Al Owais Foundation, 7X Celebrate Centenary of Sultan Al Owais

In collaboration with the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, 7X has issued an exclusive collection of distinctive commemorative stamps to honour the late poet Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais.

Recognised as a trailblazer of the UAE’s economic, social and cultural renaissance, Sultan Al Owais played a pivotal role in connecting two generations of writers and poets. Beyond his literary achievements, he was widely admired for his charitable and humanitarian contributions, both within the UAE and on a global scale.

This initiative aligns with UNESCO’s designation of 2025 as the year to commemorate the centenary of Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais’s birth (1925–2025). The commemorative year seeks to celebrate his literary legacy, humanitarian accomplishments, and his influential role in shaping the literary and cultural heritage of the UAE and the Arab world. It also pays tribute to his enduring contributions to Emirati and Arab culture, recognising his lasting impact on the region’s literary and cultural identity.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdulla Mohammed Alashram, Group CEO of 7X, stated: “We deeply value our collaboration with the Sultan Al Owais Foundation in issuing the centenary stamp to commemorate the birth of the late poet Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais. This initiative underscores our enduring commitment to celebrating the UAE and the region’s national and cultural icons, preserving their remarkable achievements and life stories as lasting sources of inspiration for future builders and pioneers.”

Dr. Sulaiman Mousa Al Jassim, Vice-Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, commented: “We sincerely appreciate 7X’s invaluable role in issuing commemorative stamps marking the 100th birth anniversary of the late Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais, a luminary in the UAE’s cultural heritage. Their contribution extends beyond the stamps, reflecting a shared commitment to honouring a figure who has profoundly influenced the nation’s cultural landscape.”

On behalf of the Al Owais Cultural Foundation, we extend our gratitude to Emirates Post Group, highlighting our commitment to the values of effective collaboration between institutions with a longstanding history of service with its profound impact on society, ensuring that the benefits reach the widest audience both within and outside the UAE. We are proud to be working together on this occasion with Emirates Post, further highlighting the icons of our national culture.

The post, designed by artist Feras Ali and measuring 3 x 4.5, features a manuscript painting by artist Narjes Noureddine. The artwork is inspired by a poem by Sultan Al Owais, with the line: “O my homeland, my dear country, from history, I’ve drawn what’s always sweet.”

In 2001, 7X issued a stamp in honour of Sultan Al Owais on the first anniversary of his passing. The stamp came in two denominations: 1 dirham, featuring the image of Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais, and 50 fils, which displayed a verse of poetry from one of Al Owais’s poems: “My homeland, where my blood flows through my wings, as if you and my soul are one, bound by eternal strings.”

On December 17, 1987, the poet Sultan Al Owais founded the independent “Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Award” to honour Arab writers and intellectuals. Throughout his life, the poet received numerous awards and accolades, most notably being recognised in 1996 by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as well as by Their Highnesses the members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates.
