The General Assembly of the Emirates Writers Union (EWU) elected its new board of directors on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Sultan Al Ameemi was chosen to lead the Union as its chairman for the next four-year term.
The Emirates Writers Union (EWU) elections concluded with the victory of seven main board members and two reserve members. Following the election, the newly elected board convened for its first meeting to assign key administrative roles and responsibilities among its members.
The first meeting resulted in the selection of Dr.Sultan Al Ameemi as Chairman of the Board;Sheikha Al Jabri appointed as Deputy Chairperson. Other key positions include Sheikha Al Mutairi as Secretary General, Mohsen Suleiman as Financial Manager, Mariam Al Zarooni as Cultural Officer, Dr.Aisha Al Shamsi as Publishing and Distribution Officer, and Dr. Saif Al Jabri as Media and Public Relations Officer.
The recent elections of EWU mark a significant milestone, as the Union continues to champion literary and cultural initiatives across the UAE. With its new leadership team, the board led by Dr. Sultan Al Ameemi is set to steer EWU’s efforts in promoting literature and cultural engagement over the next four years.
The elections saw an impressive turnout from the General Assembly, with participation exceeding the required quorum. Dr. Sultan bin Bakheet Al Ameemiled the results with 41 votes (16.33%), followed by Sheikha Mohammed Saeed Salem Al Jabri with 34 votes (13.55%). Sheikha Abdullah Al Mutairi received 33 votes (13.15%), while Mariam Ibrahim Al Zarooni received 26 votes (10.36%).
Aisha Juma Al Shamsi and Mohsen Sulayman received 18 votes (7.17%) and 17 votes (6.77%), respectively. Dr. Saif Rashid Matar Al Jabri rounded out the main board members with 16 votes (6.37%).
Additionally, Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Al Mashmoom was elected as the first reserve member with 15 votes (5.98%), while Najia Ali Rashid Al Kharji became the second reserve member with 14 votes (5.58%).
