The art of calligraphy in Iran has witnessed many innovations during the past 150 years as a result of the many cultural, artistic, political, social, and technological developments that have taken place during this period. In the past 50 years, the pace of modern calligraphy innovations and developments have increased, making this field more popular and widespread. This exhibition aims to shed light on these developments through examining the various trends of Iranian calligraphy.
The ‘Colored Letters’ exhibition is held under the umbrella of the Dubai Calligraphy Biennale, which is organized by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. The event, which aims at highlighting the importance of calligraphy as an aesthetic tool of expression that reflects culture, sees the participation of more than 200 local and international artists and innovators, features 19 exhibitions, and contributes to 35 sites around Dubai that showcase a wide variety of artworks inspired by traditional and modern calligraphy written in more than 8 languages.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has organized numerous calligraphy exhibitions in the previous years as it believes that calligraphy is one of the most prominent fields of visual arts with a great cultural energy. Hence, the Foundation has always championed this art form, celebrates it and strives to maintain and preserve it so that it may persist in this day and age and continue to thrive in the future, just like it existed in the past with its authentic sentimental and cultural values, transcending distance and boundaries and bringing together artists from around the world who find in it a gracefulness that elevates their spirits and brings about a sense of tranquility and peacefulness in their hearts that is inspired by beauty and aesthetics.
