H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has issued the Emiri Decree No. (29) of 2018 establishing the Sharjah World Book Capital office, within the framework of preparations by the Emirate to participate in the events and projects to be established according to the selection of Sharjah as the World Book Capital by the UNESCO.

These events and activities will be launched starting April 23rd, 2019, until 22nd April 2020. Under the Decree, the Sharjah World Book Capital Office shall be headed by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi.

The office shall enjoy an independent legal personality and financial, administrative and technical autonomy, as well as the capacity to carry out the legal acts that ensure achievement of the objectives for which it is established.

The Decree shall be effective from the date of its issuance and other competent authorities should implement its provisions, and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
