The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has announced that it has received 1697 entries to date for the 16th edition of Al Owais Cultural Awards.
The foundation has so far received 300 entries for the “Poetry” category, 415 entries for the “Short Story, Novel and Drama” category, 268 entries for the “Literary Studies and Criticism” category, 472 entries for the “Humanities and Future Studies” category and 242 for the “Cultural and Scientific Achievement” category. The deadline for nominations is December 31st, 2018.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation had announced that nominations were open for the 16th edition of Al Owais Cultural Awards (2018-2019) last February. Moreover, the foundation had sent out nomination forms to most universities, cultural institutions, literary associations, and publishing houses throughout the Arab world. According to the rules and regulations of the Al Owais Awards, innovators can also nominate themselves for the Awards by directly applying to the General Secretariat. In addition, 5 Arab authors are entitled to nominate whomever they see deserves this award.
The total value of the award is $600,000, while the winner in each of the following categories receives $120,000: Poetry, Short Story, Novel and Drama, Literary Studies and Criticism, Humanities and Future Studies, and Cultural and Scientific Achievement.
Winners of the 15th session of Al Owais Cultural Awards included Lebanese poet Shawqi Bazi who won the “Poetry Award”, while the “Short Story, Novel and Drama” prize was jointly won by Huda Barakat and Abdul Khaliq Al Rikabi. Moreover, the “Literary Studies and Criticism” prize was awarded to Dr. Hammadi Sammoud, the “Humanities and Future Studies” prize went to Dr. Georges Corm and the “Cultural and Scientific Achievement Award” was awarded by the foundation’s General Secretariat to the United Arab Emirates University.
