Egyptian-American actor Rami Malek joined the ensemble cast of David O. Russell’s upcoming movie at New Regency, a Los Angeles studio-based film production company.
Presented on IMDb as the “Untitled David O. Russell Project”, the film also stars Zoe Saldana, Robert de Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, among others.
Written and directed by David O. Russell and presented as comedy, the producers do not reveal any details about the upcoming production’s title or plot.
On 14 January, the Deadline Hollywood, a news agency specialized in the entertainment industry revealed that “David O. Russell’s forthcoming feature for New Regency, stars Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts and Alessandro Nivola have joined the starry ensemble.”
The news adds that “Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek and Zoe Saldana also will star in the untitled project, which is based on an original idea from the five-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker. Filming is underway in California with New Regency’s Arnon Milchan producing alongside Matthew Budman and Anthony Katagas.”
David Owen Russell is an American film writer, director, and producer. He has been nominated for five Academy Awards and four Golden Globes. He has won four Independent Spirit Awards and two BAFTA Awards among numerous other recognitions.
His Oscar-winning films include American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Rami Said Malek was born in 1981 in Los Angeles, to an Egyptian Coptic Orthodox family which emigrated to the United States in late 1970s.
He is best known for his performances as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, for which he won an Oscar in 2019. The same role brought him Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, British BAFTA award, among others.
Prior to Bohemian Rhapsody, Malek cought the American film industry’s attention for his role as hacker Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot, for which he won Primetime Emmy Awards and Critics Choice Television Awards (2016).
